Get Calm, Cozy & Creative in the Library

Help me give my students supplies to make our school library a warm and inviting space for reading, gathering, and regulating emotions.

My Project

The students at my school love to visit the library! Some come to the library to find books to read, play a game with friends, or participate in a recess activity club, while others come to find a spot to take a break and regulate their emotions. Making sure that our library meets the diverse needs of all of our school's 425 learners from prekindergarten to Grade 5 requires a variety of supplies and resources.

This project will give our library supplies to support reading and mindfulness, including tools for our calming corner, colored pencils to support mindfulness, flashlights for special events in the library, and display materials to encourage readers to engage in thoughtful discussions and find and enjoy new books.

Our library's calming corner is always in need of additional items. Sensory mazes and a floating fidget toy that features a dolphin (our school mascot) will be helpful items to have. Colored pencils will be used with coloring sheets to support calming and mindfulness. Mini flashlights will be used to have "Flashlight Fun" reading days during our Silent Book Club sessions or as class rewards. Cardstock and the turntable will be used to draw readers' eyes to books that they might want to borrow. The daily calendar will be on our circulation desk. For the past few years, we've had a daily holiday calendar, so one focusing on fun facts will be a nice way to change it up while still maintaining a tradition that readers have come to expect in our library space.

We appreciate your help in providing our readers with access to these supplies to ensure our library can effectively support student growth as readers and thinkers, while encouraging mental health and well being.
