Germs, Germs, Go Away!

Help me give my students an air purifier, hand sanitizer pumps and refills plus hand wipes to keep the room as well as our hands nice and clean!

My Students

My students represent many ethnicities, races, genders, and social classes and come from all over the city to our school in the heart of Buffalo, NY. This school year I am teaching chemistry and anatomy and physiology. By providing varied supports and materials in my classroom, I help eliminate barriers to learning and allow students of all abilities to flourish and grow. Our classroom approach takes into account the academic and mental health needs of students to help support students where they are and move them forward.

Equity not equality is the focus in my classroom.

Students are valued and supported based on individual needs. By providing STEM-based activities, students get hands-on experience and learn about making connections within science content areas and other STEM fields. Every year presents new challenges to make this happen. With the help of DonorsChoose.org, students will still get the supplies and materials needed to help bring those activities to life and inspire my students in ways that would otherwise not be possible.

My Project

Teaching during this global pandemic consistently brings new challenges. One of the most basic needs we have in the classroom is staying clean. We can do this by washing our hands whenever possible. Because of bathroom restrictions and time constraints, this isn't always possible. The hand wipes will be placed at each group and will allow students quick and easy access to hand washing supplies.

Keeping the air clean is also a big priority; the air purifier will help to remove impurities and germs so that we can stay as safe as possible.

In addition, the hand sanitizer bottles will allow one to be placed at each group and the larger bottles mean I can refill the hand sanitizer bottles when they run low. We will keep the germs at bay while also minimizing the plastic that enters the landfill.

These basic needs of an air purifier, hand wipes and hand sanitizer will help my students and I stay cleaner and safer as we navigate teaching and learning in a global pandemic.
