Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
What a world this could be if my students had even a quarter of the opportunities I had growing up. And, I did not have the Internet. With the world at our finger tips in so many respects, it's these children who are gypped out of what should be.
We are in a high poverty area and we take the term, "inner city" to new heights.
My superstar second graders know I love them and will be their advocates even when the going gets really tough. The battles these students face outside of school makes learning even tougher. My classroom has to be bar none.
My classroom is boiling over with the good energy and vibes that it takes to give these dynamite kiddos the start they need and so desire. I am the lucky one to be a teacher at this school. Never enough resources, always tons of understanding and empathy.
My Project
My students are always looking for ways to spend the long, hard winters indoors. Adding a few great choices to our current classroom selection, will reinforce to my students to not only keep up on academic skills but to polish up their social skills as well. Cooperative learning and growing is an essential part of our curriculum and overall health. Long Vowel practice and the Can Do game will provide extra phonics and decoding practice is great for not just my struggling readers. The Pop and Add to 20 Game is awesome too for reinforcing skills while having a fun.
