My students are amazing third graders from Wyoming. I have a wide range of abilities, genders and ethnicities in my classroom.
My school receives title funds due to the fact that the majority of our student population receive free and/or reduced lunch.
In addition, our state has recently felt the effects of not only the oil and gas downturn, but also the reduction of coal production. We will continue to feel the effects of reduced funding for public education in our state as well as the possibility of additional school closures (this year they closed four and last year they closed one).
My Project
Board games are an easy and fun way to build relationships and have a good time! Unfortunately, buying such supplies is can not a priority with my classroom budget. As a classroom teacher, my budgetary priority is for supplies that result in mastery of grade level standards....but of course supplies that are used to "have fun" are a necessity too!
Working cooperatively is a skill that must be taught!
It is easier to teach kids how to work together if they are doing something together as a team! Shoots and Ladder, Sorry and Jenga are great and easy ways to build friendships. These are ways that children have built memories and bonder for generations.
