Having multiple copies of the same book may seem like a simple thing, but it changes everything. Instead of just listening to a story, students are able to hold the book in their hands, follow along, go back to important parts, and truly feel like they are part of the experience.\r\n\r\nI love the curiosity, energy, and individuality my students bring into the library every day. They come in ready to talk, ask questions, make predictions, and share their thoughts. Some students are naturally eager to speak up, while others need a little more time and confidence. Having their own copy of the text gives every student a way to participate. I have watched quieter students begin to raise their hands, point to evidence in the book, and share ideas with a confidence I had not seen before. Those moments are incredibly special to me.\r\n\r\nThrough our book studies, students are building important literacy skills such as comprehension, vocabulary, making inferences, identifying character traits, understanding theme, and supporting their thinking with evidence from the text. Just as importantly, they are learning how to listen to one another, respect different perspectives, and understand that there can be more than one thoughtful way to interpret a story.\r\n\r\nReading in our library is not a quiet, isolated activity. It is interactive, collaborative, and full of conversation. We stop to wonder, laugh, predict, question, and sometimes even disagree. Students make connections between the characters and their own lives, and I get to watch them grow not only as readers, but also as thinkers and classmates.\r\n\r\nThe supplies provided through this project have also made a bigger difference than many people might realize. Pencils, sharpeners, glue sticks, crayons, bookmarks, reading strips, and pouches help students feel prepared and successful. When they have the tools they need right in front of them, they can focus on learning instead of worrying about what they are missing. These supplies support independence, organization, creativity, and confidence every single day.\r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding things has been watching students who may not always think of themselves as \"readers\" become excited about our books. They remember details from previous chapters, ask when we are going to read again, and eagerly share their predictions about what might happen next. Seeing that spark develop is one of the reasons I love being a school librarian.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are able to experience books in a deeper and more meaningful way. You have helped create a space where they feel included, prepared, confident, and excited to learn. Our students have loved having these new spaces in our classroom, and it has been so special to watch them turn the playhouses into their own little community. We have watched students invite one another into their play, create different roles, solve little problems together, and come up with new ideas for how each house can be used. These moments may look like simple play, but they are giving our young learners so many opportunities to practice communication, cooperation, creativity, and kindness.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the playhouses, they were beyond excited. They immediately wanted to explore every one of them and could hardly wait to start playing. Seeing their faces and hearing all of their ideas made us realize just how meaningful these spaces were going to be for our classroom. As we move through the year, we plan to continue using the Playhouse Village alongside our classroom themes, stories, and the interests we see developing in our students. Recently a group of my students created a 3D model of a flower, from scratch, to incorporate into a Fine Arts Skit for Destination Imagination State Tournament. As it was a team choice element that highlighted their interests, it gained them enough points to put them into 3rd place at the tournament. \r\nOther students have been using their 3D designs to create art.
