My Students

I have the best job in the world working with the best students in the world!

Our school is a great place for students to learn.

My students come from wonderful, supportive families. We are located in a suburban community with a small-town feel. Because of our demographics, we receive very little funding from our state. This means that we must get creative when it comes to providing our students with the resources they need to have the education that they deserve.

My Project

Throughout the year my students learn about different cultures. I incorporate diversity and inclusiveness into many of my units. Earlier in the year, my students and their families put together a family tree. Then students completed a report on one of the countries their ancestors were from. We then studied folktales through the lens of culture. Students were able to compare and contrast different versions of tales.

As a year-end activity, I would like my students to showcase their learning of different cultures and places around the world in a new and exciting way.

To do this, we need more technology.

We will use Google Maps and Google Earth to "visit" different communities. We will look at schools, villages, landmarks, and houses from all over the world. Students will also use the app "Homes" by TinyBop to explore different cultures and homes. These tools will help students generate authentic questions that will drive their research. After exploring, students will narrow their focus to a specific region of the world. They will make comparisons between their life in their community and the way citizens live in the region they have selected. Students will be taking screenshots of different places from different perspectives and then use Book Creator to create an online book that showcases their learning using images, text, and video clips.

I am very excited for the learning opportunities this project will provide for my current students, as well as future classes.
