My Project

My fourth-grade students are curious, thoughtful learners who love asking questions and making connections between what they read and the world around them. They thrive when given opportunities to discuss ideas, solve problems, and see themselves as thinkers. As they transition from learning to read to reading to learn, they need engaging texts that challenge them to think deeply while building strong comprehension skills.

The class sets of The City of Ember and Among the Hidden will allow every student to participate in rich discussions about leadership, courage, problem-solving, and the choices individuals make when faced with challenges.

Through these shared novels, students will strengthen critical reading, writing, and discussion skills while exploring themes that remain relevant today. Having a copy of the text in every student's hands ensures equal access to learning and allows us to dive deeply into close reading, evidence-based discussions, and meaningful written responses.

My goal is to create a classroom where students not only become stronger readers but also more thoughtful citizens. These novels encourage students to ask questions, evaluate different perspectives, and consider how their actions can impact others. By supporting this project, you are helping students develop the literacy and critical-thinking skills they will carry far beyond fourth grade.
