The TV and the base have already made a big difference in the way I work with students, especially during small-group time. Now my kids can clearly see the visuals, examples, and steps they need to follow, and they can access audiovisual resources that really help the lessons make sense.\r\n\r\nI've noticed that students are much more focused and confident when we meet in small groups. When the model, video, or directions are right in front of them, they jump in quicker and stay engaged longer. It has especially helped my students who need repeated modeling or extra support.\r\n\r\nThis project didn't just give us a TV, it gave my students a clearer, more supportive way to learn every single day. I transformed our classroom into a cozy, restaurant-style setting, complete with gleaming gold platters showcasing a variety of book genres. Students explored enticing \"tasting\" menus, where they recorded their top three book choices. This immersive experience allowed them to practice the important skill of previewing books and selecting the perfect \"fit\" chapter book.\r\n\r\nOnce students made their selections, they joined book clubs and collaborated with peers to discuss key story elements—setting, characters, plot, and theme. The experience culminated in a creative cereal box book report, highlighting the books' story elements and overarching themes.\r\n\r\nMy goal is to foster a lifelong love of reading by introducing students to high-interest literature and empowering them to make their own book selections. It was inspiring to see their excitement as they immersed themselves in their books, eagerly sharing their choices with classmates. This enthusiasm extended beyond the project, sparking continued reading and deeper engagement with literature.\r\n\r\nI extend my heartfelt gratitude to all our generous supporters. Your contributions have played a vital role in cultivating a passion for reading and expanding our classroom library—a resource that will continue to enrich the reading journeys of my third graders for years to come.","fullyFundedDate":1727995042221,"projectUrl":"project/hooked-on-books-building-a-culture-of-r/8842834/","projectTitle":"Hooked on Books: Building a Culture of Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Clarke","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp556702_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1484436233794","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/jennifer-clarke"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_95224","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1889,"numTeachers":111,"percentFrplEligible":33,"percentAsian":6,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":80,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"17.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":87.5,"schoolId":95224,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Pine Lake Preparatory School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Pine Lake Preparatory School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/north-carolina/north-carolina-department-of-education/pine-lake-preparatory/95224"}
