Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My class consists of a diverse group of learners. My classroom has 24 second grade students from varying abilities. The socioeconomic background of our students is more than 90% poverty level. I teach in an urban inner city school rich with diverse cultures from all over the world. Most of my students need additional learning materials to meet grade level expectations. Our school saying is Better today than yesterday! Better tomorrow than today! I want to make their tomorrow BETTER!
My Project
My second graders need innovative writing materials to create books to publish in our classroom. Students will use card stock to create colorful covers for their published books. They will keep these materials organized in a cart with drawers at the writing center.
Colorful discs will enhance the chairs at the writing table to help focus students while creating and writing stories to be published.
Colored pencils and markers will help the students add color to their illustrations enhancing their writing. Students will get excited about their writing projects and complete projects more willingly with innovative materials.
Students will utilize anchor charts for writing created on post it chart paper attached to walls near writing center to enhance their work and spark their creativity. Students will feel like real life authors using colorful materials to publish their writing. I look forward to sparking creativity and a love for writing in my second grade classroom.
