My Students

I work with 120 students this academic year, and I have taught the majority of them for either two or three consecutive years. They care deeply about the social justice issues that impact them and their communities, including, but not limited to, environmental justice, community health, racial injustice, gender discrimination, and poverty as well as how these intersecting issues lead to violence.

Not only are my students aware of these complex issues, but they are also problem solvers, healers, critical thinkers, and, most importantly, activists.

Many of them work within their communities to bring people together to think of and facilitate creative ways to resolve these issues.

My Project

One of my favorite ways to check students for their understanding of the topics we are learning about is through games like Kahoot! Although most students participate in these games regardless of incentives, I like to give out awards to students who score the highest points or show the most progress with their skill development.

These materials will be an exciting and fun way to get students engaged during our review of the week's materials, as well as provide them a fun way to "treat themselves".

Many of my students enjoy going to Starbucks as a place where they can read a book and complete homework or study. I would love for them to be able to spend time there without feeling pressured to find money to spend there. The electric kettle and tea are for my self care station, as my old electric kettle has finally crashed and I am already running out of teas to offer students when they need a peaceful moment for themselves.
