My Students

I am a third year Special Education teacher for 11th graders with mild/moderate learning disabilities. I want to help them with more than just their homework. Students in Oakland need access to more resources and help with preparation for the future. In the office nook of my classroom, I'm making it into a chill zone for them to take some time and destress when they have bigger issues happening. I would also like to have snacks for them for times they missed breakfast or can't afford lunch.

I want them to feel heard, valued and appreciated and I plan to do this by showing them that I genuinely care.

I would like to take them on trips to tour colleges since I didn't have this luxury when I was in school. Overall, I plan to go above and beyond for my students, so they see how bright their future can be and that they matter. Small steps first of having snacks to help them as well as school supplies for those who aren't able. Thank you if you're able to help.

My Project

Many students come to school hungry and without eating, students often struggle to focus and perform well in school. In order for them to perform at the best of their abilities I would like to have snacks and drinks on hand for them when they need it.

We have kept snacks in our class and it is really helpful for them, so we continue to raise funds to replenish our stash so that we can remain energized and productive throughout the day.
