Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am back with an exciting new project focused on the power of giving back through a student-led community service initiative. Our 4th–6th grade students are ready to launch a STEAM Mentorship Family Night that turns innovation into a bridge for leadership on our campus and I am so excited to be apart of this movement as we support our community with Scientific Literacy.

Help us stay organized with supply bins for sign-ins, handouts, name tags, and other materials, and we will use Expo markers to help direct families throughout the space.

These Graffiti Robot and Music Box kits will serve as the essential “tools of service” for our student leaders in grades 4-6.

Our STEAM Mentors in grades 4th through 6th grade have been leaders in our after school TK-12 STEAM club and now they get to teach our elementary families about circuits, motor functions, and engineering through hands-on building. These kits allow the our STEAM mentors to provide a tactile, engaging, and supportive coaching experience for their younger students. By managing these kits during workshops, our STEAM mentors are performing meaningful community service that brings high-quality STEAM experiences directly to families who may not have access to these resources at home.

This initiative serves the entire neighborhood and broader school community, specifically aiming to help address the “opportunity gap” in our city with Scientific Literacy to support 21st Century Jobs that do not exist yet. This service ensures that every family in our neighborhood feels empowered to innovate, learn, and succeed together as more jobs become available and need students/families to be Scientifically Literate scholars.
