My Project

STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) is an approach to teaching and learning that is rooted in authentic cross-curricular integration and develops critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration, and creativity. In my experience, students are more invested and engaged in their learning when they understand the relevance and connection to the real world and are able to have voice and choice in their projects.

I’m asking for materials and books that will be used to support STEAM projects and will be used for cross-curricular activities throughout the school year and in my classroom for years to come.

I've included supplies that support our Changing Earth science unit and Problem Solvers and Heroes social studies unit and will allow me to teach these concepts in a multidisciplinary way.

In addition to STEAM materials, I'm also asking for multiculturally inclusive books to add to our classroom library to support the anti-racist work we're doing as a school district. It's essential that there are many books in classroom libraries that act both as windows and mirrors. Mirrors are books where students see themselves, their race, ethnicity, culture, heritage, traditions, abilities, and more. Books that act as windows allow students to understand and celebrate other personal and social identities, creating a more inclusive, diverse, and empathetic community.
