Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are extremely passionate about reading and learning from both fiction and non-fiction titles. They are obsessed with graphic novels and nonfiction and fiction books about animals. Your support will help students to stay excited, and in some cases get even more excited, about reading and learning, which will support their literacy education and encourage reading for fun, too.

I have continued to order as many graphic novels as possible because that is where the majority of the student interest is, especially when it comes to fiction, but graphic novels are even more important for ESL (English as a Second Language) or ML (Multi-language) learners, and for reluctant readers.

Many students have also noted how graphic novels help them with focusing.

To support more kindergarten and first-grade students, I am also looking to include as many National Geographic Prereaders and related books, to increase their interest in non-fiction early.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
