Fueling STEM Learning Through Science Olympiad

Help me give my students graphing calculators, binders, sheet protectors, folders, and batteries.

My Project

At CCMS, Science Olympiad is an established program that we are actively working to build up and strengthen so students have greater access to high-quality STEM learning, teamwork, and competition opportunities.

As a Title I school, this program plays a critical role in expanding access to STEM learning opportunities that many students might not otherwise have.

Our students are capable, motivated, and eager to grow, but many do not have the financial means to purchase the specialized materials needed for competitive science events.

To help our club succeed, we need essential supplies that will support students throughout the school year and as they prepare for Regionals at East Carolina University. Plastic folders, sheet protectors, and 2-inch binders will help students organize notes, study guides, practice materials, and event resources for each competition category. Strong organization is critical for Science Olympiad preparation, and these supplies will help students stay focused and ready.

Scientific and graphing calculators are not optional—they are required for many Science Olympiad events. These calculators are used for data analysis, problem-solving, and completing event tasks accurately under competition conditions. For many families in a low-income community, asking students to purchase these on their own can be a significant financial burden, which makes providing them through school support essential for equitable access.

Science Olympiad also builds far beyond competition success. It helps develop future leaders by strengthening critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills that connect directly to Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses and 21st-century skills. These experiences prepare students for a wide range of future career paths in science, engineering, healthcare, technology, and other high-demand fields.

These resources will help strengthen our Science Olympiad program and ensure students have the tools they need to grow, learn, and compete with confidence.
