Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are dedicated and hard-working but often need direction. These students have experienced a limited amount of resources throughout their educational experience, yet amaze me with their resilience and ability to create something out of nothing.
Most of them live in poverty and have spent their entire educational career in an area with extremely limited resources.
Our textbooks are old and are often worn to the point of uselessness, yet student creativity and intelligence are bountiful.
Their tenacity in working with these limited resources is an inspiration to me. They deserve the access to materials and experiences of surrounding schools that have so many more resources.
In my experience, I see what they are capable of and know with adequate resources they could accomplish so much more.
My Project
Students will not only develop reading and writing skills while reflecting on the book, Ten Rules for Approaching Life, but they will also gain an in-depth understanding of the impact having a positive attitude has on their personal character and accomplishments in life. Through reflection exercises and classroom discussions, students will strengthen their work ethic and personal character. Each student will get his own copy of the book.
By donating to our project, you will not only help improve and increase students’ personal character traits, you will ultimately help increase their academic achievement through developing critical thinking and analysis skills.
As students analyze each of the life rules, they will have an opportunity to self-reflect and improve weaknesses, as well as, enhance personal strengths. Helping students develop essential positive character traits will equip them with the skills needed to be productive individuals no matter what future profession they choose to enter.
