My Project

My fifth graders are at a wonderful 'in-between' age. They are developing the critical thinking skills of young adults while maintaining the boundless creativity of childhood. They are naturally inquisitive, constantly asking 'why' and 'how' things work. In our classroom, we strive to create an environment where mistakes are celebrated as discoveries and where every student sees themselves as a scientist. As they prepare for the transition to middle school, I want to ensure they have a rock-solid foundation in STEM and a genuine excitement for exploration.

In fifth grade, science concepts become much more abstract.

Beyond textbooks and screens, fifth graders need tactile tools to master abstract concepts like gravity. These hands-on materials will allow my students to build, test, and innovate as true scientists.

This project focuses on three levels of learning that will elevate our science block:

STEM Construction Toys: Using building sets, students will act as engineers. They will build functional structures, experiencing firsthand how force and motion work in the real world.

Science Games: Science-themed games will allow students to practice concepts like food webs in a high-engagement, competitive format that builds social-emotional skills alongside academic knowledge.

High-Interest Science Books: We will use these to deepen our knowledge of specific science topics in our curriculum while encouraging a love of literacy.

Your donation will help transition my students from passive observers to active innovators. These tools will be used year after year to inspire hundreds of students to pursue careers in STEM fields.
