My Project

My beginning band students are eager to learn, but reading music can feel like learning a whole new language. Many of my students are still developing foundational reading skills, and when you combine that with learning note names, rhythms, and instrument fingerings, it can quickly become overwhelming. I want to give them clear, structured, and engaging tools that break music reading into manageable steps so they can feel successful early on.

These music literacy resources will give my students consistent, visual, and hands-on practice with note recognition, rhythm reading, and fingerings, helping them connect what they see on the page to what they play on their instrument.

With these materials, I can reinforce daily warm-ups, support small group work, and provide differentiated practice for students who need extra support. My goal is to build confident, independent musicians who don’t just play notes, but truly understand the music in front of them.

My students are incredibly hardworking and resilient. Many are balancing multiple challenges outside of school, yet they show up ready to learn and make music together every day. Having high-quality, structured materials will allow me to meet them where they are and give them the tools they need to succeed, grow, and feel proud of their progress in band.
