My Project

My AP Seminar students are learning to do much more than simply read a text. They are learning how to ask meaningful questions, evaluate information, examine issues from multiple perspectives, and use evidence to develop their own arguments.

This year, AP Seminar also serves as an English Language Arts course for many of my students, which gives us an exciting opportunity to connect traditional literary study with inquiry-based skills at the heart of AP Capstone.

Fahrenheit 451 is an ideal text for that work. Through Bradbury's novel, students can explore questions surrounding censorship, technology, media, conformity, access to information, and the responsibility individuals have when deciding what information to trust.

Unfortunately, our current classroom copies have seen many years of use and love. Many are worn, damaged, or reaching the point where they need to be replaced. A new class set will allow every student to have a reliable copy of the novel as we read, annotate, discuss, and connect Bradbury's ideas to contemporary sources and issues.

Additional research resources will help students take those conversations beyond the novel. Students will use classroom reference materials as they develop research questions, evaluate sources, synthesize perspectives, and construct evidence-based arguments throughout the AP Seminar course.

These books will support students far beyond one novel unit. They will help create a classroom where literature becomes a starting point for inquiry and where students learn to question, investigate, and communicate ideas with confidence.
