My Project

My third graders are budding environmentalists who are fascinated by the "hidden" worlds around them. They are energetic, hands-on learners who thrive when they can connect classroom lessons to real-world experiences. Our school community values science and sustainability, and we are always looking for ways to bring the wonders of nature indoors.

Outside of the classroom, I am a dedicated beekeeper.

I spend my time managing hives and observing the incredible complexity of honey bee colonies firsthand. My students love hearing "tales from the hive," but words and photos only go so far. To truly understand the biology and social structure of these insects, students need to see the details up close—the specific anatomy of a queen, the hexagonal precision of the comb, and the distinct stages of the life cycle.

Every year, I hold a World Bee Day celebration on May 20th to educate my students about the importance of pollinators. This year, I want to take that celebration to the next level.

I am requesting a set of high-quality educational models from Aperture Apiaries. These models will serve as the centerpiece of our celebration, allowing students to:

Act as Scientists: Use the models to identify different types of bees (workers, drones, and queens) and their specific roles.

Interactive Learning: Rotate through "station-based" activities where they can handle the models and learn about the hive's "superorganism" structure.

School-Wide Impact: These resources will also be used for presentations to other grade levels, especially second grade Science Lab classrooms who are learning about bees.

While my personal experience allows me to share stories, these Aperture Apiaries models provide the physical "ah-ha!" moments that stick with a child forever. Your donation will help provide durable, anatomically accurate tools that will be used for World Bee Day celebrations for years to come.
