One of my favorite moments happened just days after the books arrived—students were eagerly flipping through the bins, finding \"just right\" books, and proudly saying things like, \"This one fits me!\" or \"I can read this by myself!\" For many of my students, this was the first time they felt ownership over their reading choices instead of frustration or avoidance.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, the excitement was immediate. There were gasps, big smiles, and lots of questions about who could read which books first. That enthusiasm has carried over into stronger stamina, improved fluency, and more meaningful reading conversations. \r\n\r\nBecause of this project, our next steps are even more powerful. Students then took that independent practice and connected it to grade level text giving them background knowledge to help them make new learning games.\r\n\r\nMy kindergarten students in particular benefited from the tracing boards and litter pads as they were learning letters and sounds they were able to practice correct letter formation for the upper and lowercase letters. The last group I worked with for six weeks went from knowing around eight letters and sounds to all 26.
