This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Every day, my students ask "Miss, what are we doing today?" and the usual response is "Learning!" followed by groans and eye-rolling. My students come from low-income households and receive free breakfast and lunch in school. Often, schoolwork isn't their primary focus, and it can be hard to motivate them to take their learning seriously. As part of my practice, I try to bring creative and challenging research projects to the classroom, in order to advance their learning and inquiry about the world around them.
My Project
My students love doing hands-on student-led projects in class. They enjoy bringing History to life by getting creative with new technology. They recently made commercials on the Industrial Revolution, but the cameras we were using were old and yielded poor quality videos which they felt ruined their projects. We are requesting three digital cameras, with cases and additional memory cards, that are user friendly and take higher quality video for our next project.
High-tech equipment brings our projects to the next level.
So we are also asking for a laptop that has the ability to work on video editing. They currently have a few Chromebooks, which cannot work on video editing. Lastly, we want to keep our technologies safe and charged when we are not in class, and feel this charging cart will be useful and space saving.
