Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My students and I thank you for reading our proposal! I teach at an inner-city school in Illinois. Most of our students are of Hispanic or African American decent and come from low-income households. I am a special education teacher, and I co-teach in a 4th and 5th grade classroom where 40% of our students have a disability.

Despite the fact that my students live in a city which offers countless cultural opportunities, my students rarely get a chance to participate in these activities outside of school. This is due to several reasons, including parents' lack of resources and also lack of knowledge of the resources available. During the school year, I love to give my students the chance to participate in the cultural opportunities that their city has to offer.

I would like to take my students to the Museum of Science and Industry to see the children's musical, Freedom Train. This musical is about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad. This musical will be a very educational and enjoyable cultural experience for my students. They will learn about a very important time in their history better than I would ever be able to teach it to them in class. In addition to seeing the musical, my students would also have the opportunity to visit several of the exhibits in the Museum of Science and Industry.

Please consider helping me give my students the opportunity of seeing Freedom Train at the Museum of Science and Industry. I know that it will be an experience that they will never forget!
