My Project

Using these materials, I hope to create a safe, welcoming environment for all students. Our classroom goal is always to create a place where students can take risks and find comfort. Studies have shown that when students feel those emotions in school, it can help them achieve higher academically but also can bolster their social-emotional skills and interactions with staff and peers. Coming from a Title I school, students in my district are no strangers to feeling unsafe or even to experiencing traumatic life events outside of school. My goal is to create a space for them to feel comfortable making mistakes and learning! The lights will help create an environment for students to thrive. My students currently sit at their seats for morning meeting due to there not being a carpet in my room. Using the carpet for morning meeting will build community. We also spend a lot of time talking about internet safety and how to use computers, making the mice a great opportunity for those who have only used touch screens. The classroom materials (pencils and markers) will be used by students who cannot afford their own materials. My students currently sit at tables and the cube storage will help them have a place for their things.
