This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are a caring, conscientious group of students. They are special because they are actively involved in a read-aloud through google meets while our school is closed down because of the pandemic.

Every day they join in and participate for at least an hour and fifteen minutes.

If someone is absent, a student will try to contact them to get them to join in. They are reaching out to one another to stay connected and involved in this learning experience. They offer technical advice if someone is having trouble with their device. It is wonderful to see such dedication and devotion to each other and to learning.

One student, in particular, does not have access to a computer so, in order to participate, she calls into my cell phone with her mom's phone and listens to the read aloud as well as participates in it. I turn on my phone's speaker and lean it against the computer while class is in session. This behavior is just one of the many examples of my student's dedication and desire to learn and stay connected during these difficult, alienating times.

My Project

All of my students want to participate. These books will make a difference because they will allow the students to read along while being read to and to also use the book for additional assignments associated with the read aloud. This gift will show them the importance of reading and my dedication to them.

It is also expected that these kids read for 20 minutes a day, yet most of them don't have books at home to read.

My students are poor and cannot afford to purchase books with their own money.
