Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income, high poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students, like most, are intelligent, capable, and creative; many of them just do not know it yet.
They love technology and doing hands-on projects. They do not like to be confined to a seat. They want to be innovative and have experiences they may not get otherwise.
Many of them are being raised in single-parent households where very difficult challenges are present. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical." I may not be able to control their home lives, but I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire them to never quit. They can be successful but may need a push to get started. It is my goal to open the door of opportunity for them.
My Project
If my project is fully funded, my students will be able to engage with learning about the field of criminology and forensic scientists. We are encouraging them to learn science by providing classes that teach science using career-oriented lessons.
I have a goal to create crime scenes and have students collect and process evidence in real-world scenarios.
I am reconfiguring my teaching methods in my class to enhance their learning experience. I want to create an experiential learning opportunity. Students learn better through playing the part of crime scene investigators. We appreciate all your support.
