Forecasting Success: Bringing Weather to Life!

Help me give my students the opportunity to explore weather using a Weather Station through hands-on learning, real-world observations, and engaging science resources created by other teachers from teachers pay teachers!

My Project

Fifth graders are curious, energetic, and always asking questions about the world around them.

They learn best when they can explore, investigate, and make connections between what we are learning in the classroom and what they experience every day.

Weather is a big part of our fifth-grade science curriculum, and students are expected to analyze and interpret weather data throughout the year. Instead of only reading about weather in a textbook, I want my students to experience it firsthand.

A classroom weather station will allow us to monitor our own local weather each day. Students will track temperature, wind speed and direction, precipitation, and other weather conditions while learning how weather changes over time. They will record their observations in their Science Journals (composition notebooks), analyze the data they collect, recognize patterns, make predictions, and better understand severe weather events such as hurricanes and tornadoes. To keep the weather station running throughout the year, I am also requesting rechargeable batteries for the outdoor sensor.

I am also requesting Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards. These gift cards will allow me to purchase engaging, teacher-created resources that align with our North Carolina standards. From interactive activities and science investigations to review games and assessments, these resources will help me provide meaningful lessons that support all learners and keep students excited about science.

These materials will give my students the opportunity to learn science by doing science. They will collect real weather data, ask questions, make observations, and use evidence to explain what they discover.
