For the Social-Emotional Learning Love of Picture Books
Help me give my students exposure to amazing literature that will promote Social Emotional learning, inspire, and empower them to handle life's ups and downs.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a new school counselor in Sauk Village, Il. Many of our students come from low income families and struggle to get the support they need to be success both in and out of the classroom. We have seen an increase in children that have experienced traumatic events which causes severe impacts on learning. Our goal is to make sure that students feel safe and loved when they are at school and know also that when they leave us to go home or on to the next level we continue to love them." My goal is to help each student be the best that they can and one day be a productive member of society.
No matter the age, all students love picture books!
Students will learn to tackle big problems through engaging literature that inspires, empowers and make a huge impact in their lives.

My Project
As a school counselor, I visit 28 classrooms on a monthly basis to address the social emotional learning needs of my students through lessons and activities. I also work with students in small group and individually on a daily basis.
Having amazing picture books, that will help students learn to tackle big problems, will enhance the school counseling program in my district.
I believe most children love hearing a good read-aloud and through these engaging and powerful picture books, students will be inspired and empowered to deal with various issues throughout their lives.
