During the after school program that I plan to facilitate, students will address issues of poor academics, anger, self-control, sadness, anxiety, and many other emotions that directly impact their learning and environment. One of the predominate challenges we have in our school is displaced anger which results in student conflict. I am hoping that by providing students with the techniques to calm down and appreciate themselves, their communities, and the people in them, we will see a change in behavior and more gratefulness and respect. Students will practice yoga, create calming jars using water bottles and glitter, create beautiful calming works of art using mandala coloring pages. We will create a rock garden for the entire school to enjoy. These materials will promote the practice of mindfulness, calming strategies, and self-regulation techniques that will result in greater academic success.
