My Project

One of my biggest challenges as a teacher today is getting my students to truly enjoy reading. It’s harder than it used to be. I can remember a time when students were excited to sit down with a book, get lost in a story, and beg for “just one more chapter.” But today, most would rather be on a device than open a book.

We know that the best way for students to become better readers is to read every single day—but if they don’t want to read, how do we make that happen?

With your generous donation to this project, you’ll help show my students that reading can be exciting and something to look forward to. Last year, I started reading novels with my students. Something amazing happened: students who once avoided reading were suddenly asking to read more.

Now, I want to take that spark and turn it into a fire.

With a class set of the beloved children’s novel The One and Only Ivan, I can put a powerful and engaging story into every student’s hands. It’s a story that touches the heart and opens up important conversations—perfect for helping students see that reading isn’t just something they have to do, but something they get to do.

My students are amazing. They work hard, support each other, and grow every day. With your help, they can continue that growth and become confident, lifelong readers.
