My Students

Remember Kindergarten? A couple of hours, coloring, playtime and of course snacks! My students are first graders and the transition from a couple of hours of school to all day first grade can be rough on their little bodies.

I want to make the environment of our classroom- welcome, accommodating, flexible, and safe.

Having flexible seating and a classroom set of headphones in our classroom will be beneficial in the fact that it will allow us to be productive with our classmates, move around and create more space, and allow those that need to get some wiggles out in their seat to do so without being a major distraction to others! The headphones will allow the students to work independently when asked to on their iPad without having to distract others with the noise.

My Project

This project is for my students to be flexible and focused in the classroom. I have many students who already have a hard time sitting for long periods of time in the metal chairs that the district provides. The transition from kindergarten to first grade is a challenging one and I believe that school should be a place of learning in a way that is beneficial/ Providing flexible seating and headphones for my students will allow them to work productively throughout the day. I have noticed when I allow them to stand or even move to the rug throughout the day it lessens the wiggles and builds focus. Having wobble flexible seating in the classroom will allow my students to do group work together as well for those students who need to not sit in a traditional chair for an entire day!
