Help me give my students materials to spend field day having a fun day of play & sportsmanship. Another donation gave us potting soil for planting in the morning. We want students to have lots of fun in the afternoon.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
How does a fun-filled Field Day make a difference in our students' learning? Our Physical Education Coach tells us that students who play organized sports learn to work with others, cooperate, and have to follow 2, 3, and 4 different rules or directions. All these skills are necessary for our students to transfer into the classroom.
When students have to team up with a group or a partner to do math problems or read out loud to a group, that is teamwork and cooperating.
When students learn new lessons teachers have to send them off with directions to complete the task on their own. Games, sports, and team-building activities reinforce those skills. Most importantly they learn that 'more hands make light work' so they are more likely to ask for help when stuck. So this field day we wanted to be sure to expose our students who don't have the opportunity to play some organized sports games. This also ties into the equitable literacy focus we have for our school. When students are given all the information they get to make better-informed decisions for themselves as they grow. We are requesting fun materials for field day like balance stepping stones, water balls, and street hockey sets.
