Hands on activities are best for the students I work with who have autism, ADHD, specific learning disabilities, etc. and come from diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic levels. Most of my students receive free or reduced lunches.
They have sensory needs that need to be met as well and for that reason I want to provide my students with ways to combat their daily challenges.
My students know that my classroom allows for freedom of choice and self-reflection! Flexible sitting, standing, laying, and working hard go hand in hand in our classroom. Your donations for flexible seating are very much needed.
With "Flexible Freedom," students are given the choice to select the type of seating they feel will be most beneficial to their learning experience each day. The stools and bands will allow my students more flexibility to move around and collaborate throughout the day.
Classroom chairs don't provide much comfort, and for many students, the ability to have a choice, the option to rock, bounce, or move is extremely beneficial and even crucial to their ability to focus and learn.
This new seating will expand my student's options while providing an environment of cooperation and learning.
An inability to be still all day should not limit a child's ability to be a successful and accomplished student. If I am able to make a change to our classroom environment that change the academic outcome for my students, then this simple seating solution is a start.
