Our students at our school are stellar and even though most of our children come from low socioeconomic backgrounds, that has not stopped the passion for learning that they bring to school every day.
We have been displaced from our original location at our school in Dallas, TX., due to severe mold growth in the building.
While the school is under renovation, we are now being housed at a high school. This has been quite a transition for our students as well as our staff. The majority of our students live in areas that are unsafe and not conducive to a healthy learning environment. Nevertheless, our students have shown their resilience in many ways and they are dedicated to striving for excellence and doing what it takes to become successful!
I am a member of Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE).
In a traditional classroom, students are expected to sit in a desk and complete their assignments. There has been a shift in the 21st century classroom. Classrooms are being redesigned to model some type of flexible seating. Flexible seating increases motivation and engagement.
The students will have a choice of sitting in a desk, standing, or sitting on a sofa.
The students can stand and learn if they choose. They may also sit on a comfortable sofa and complete their assignments. Many of the students sit for long periods during the day and I would like for them to have an option when they are in my classroom.
