Mrs. Schaal from Saint Elmo IL is requesting Flexible Seating through DonorsChoose, the #1 classroom funding site for teachers.

My Students

Step into the world of MATH! Whole group instruction sets the stage for class direction and information. Switching gears, students are given the option of flexible seating choices for the small group and individual lessons that follow. Flexible seating has allowed my students to not only to choose the most appropriate seating for their learning style, but also to have the ability to work with different students while in their seating groups.

Seventy-two students that are low income and possess mixed abilities in MATH are seen on a daily basis.

These students are fifth and sixth graders that are inquisitive, anxious to learn and seek mathematical information. The students have various backgrounds and experiences that contribute to their learning needs and styles.

My Project

Students learn in different styles and in different settings. Flexible seating allows students to have choice in their math education through placement of his/her seat and type of seating that will best assist them in staying focused during class. Flexible seating focuses on meeting a student's educational need by providing style of seating options and areas to place his/her seat that will allow the student to learn most effectively.

Use of active learning seats, laptop desks (that can be used on the floor), clip boards for versatility and stability seating discs all provide the student with options to increase their learning potential!

These options are key to encouraging students to take ownership in his/her learning and to providing the style necessary to ensure success.

Flexible seating is a project that requires several options to be the most effective in a classroom. This project will be utilized daily in my math classroom.
