My fourth grade class is an amazing group of children who love to learn using a variety of different modalities. They love to "stump" the teacher and ask numerous questions about the topics we are studying. They push themselves every day to provide high-quality work.
I have a variety of learners in my classroom and I work hard to engage each and every one of them.
Students come from a variety of backgrounds and bring their own unique story to the classroom. I really enjoy getting to know each child and family.
Our school district includes 792 students and averages 13 students per teacher. We promote leadership and good character for all students.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. During independent work times, they choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently, my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as at different tables, sitting under tables with clipboards, or sitting or laying on the floor with a clipboard. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk.
My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when they are given a choice of where to work.
The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. There is a neurological pathway that goes from your body's balance and movement system to your alert system in your brain. The movement actually allows for alertness and attention. Having another rug would be extremely beneficial for some students that just need to get the wiggles out and open a good book. An inflatable chair can also be used as an alternative chair when students work around the room! My husband built two benches but they are extremely uncomfortable to sit on as they are made out of wood. Adding two bench cushions to our classroom would allow the benches to be more cozy for student learning!
Please help me to direct my students' natural kinesthetic energy and need for movement in a positive way!
