Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have the pleasure of teaching 18 fabulous first graders in Florida. Our school is a Title 1 school, with more than 90% of our student population on free or reduced lunches. Many of my students do not have many books at home. They have a desire to learn, but need help to stay motivated and engaged in their learning. We have a strong emphasis on reading, writing and math foundations in first grade, and students are involved in daily reading and writing workshops.
My Project
Currently, my students are encouraged to sit at tables and chairs all day and many are struggling to stay focused. My goal is to provide them with a variety of seating choices so they have an option to choose what works best for them as an individual student.
By giving my students more seating choices it will help empower them to make better choices and become more successful in the classroom.
Having choices helps them become 21 Century learners.
Through research, I have seen fantastic results from classrooms with open seating options for their students. I know my students would benefit as well, and I can't wait to see their excitement, as well as engagement, increase with our new seating options
