Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our school is part of a very large, urban school district with a very diverse student population. Our school is a dual language Spanish Immersion magnet, in which all students in the school receive half of their instruction in English and half of their instruction in Spanish.
By the time they become sixth graders, nearly all of the students are bilingual.
Our school serves students in grades K-6 and provides rigorous academics, fantastic teachers and a safe learning environment.
Our school serves ESL and Special Education students with a range of disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, emotional disturbance, autism spectrum disorder and specific learning disabilities.
My Project
In my classroom students have a wide variety of needs from students with ADD and ADHD and other learning disabilities.
Flexible seating is a great way to reach all of the needs of my students.
It allows students to take control of their learning environment.
As more research becomes available, we are learning that students need to be able to move and find a setting that works for their individual needs. Flexible seating is a way to help those kids who are always on the move to meet their needs in a more structured way, that fits the classroom environment.
By having flexible seating in the classroom, students get to pick a work space and seat that meets their needs and allows them to have ownership of their learning.
Having a variety and choice allows students to have ownership of their learning. I am requesting portable laptop lap desks and bungee seats to help my students learn better.
