Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This school year, I am teaching 29 intelligent, curious, and confident 5th graders. Their backgrounds are all very different which bring a challenging but rewarding experience to the classroom. My 5th graders all have different academic and social abilities. They are resilient, strong, and caring. My students also work very hard and care for one another.
My students are capable of so much!
Due to such different backgrounds, challenges, and experiences in my students' lives, they require a lot of support and for that reason I hope to provide them with a little extra motivation and guidance trough flexible seating. I believe they will be able to achieve so much more once they have comfort while they learn.
My Project
Last year, my students were able to get a taste of what flexible seating is like in the classroom. This year, I would like my 5th grade students to get the full experience. They will have to learn some difficult concepts across all subjects and be creative problem solvers. By providing them flexible seating options like wobble chairs, floor cushions, and saucers throughout their day, they will be able to focus in more during lessons and work comfortably as they are engaged in their own independent learning.
Comfort is key in classroom engagement.
Most students come to school and expect to sit for long periods of time while learning. This becomes difficult and not very fun. One way I would like to motivate my students to become more involved in their learning is to provide them the option of sitting where they feel is most productive. This will definitely make learning more fun and comfortable. I hope you will help give my students voice and choice during their school day!
