Our classroom community is inclusive, caring, and curious. We practice daily meditation to regulate our emotions. We create a safe learning environment by practicing appropriate social skills. We make decisions that are best for our classroom community as a whole because we know we only succeed if everyone is successful.
My students are suffering from the challenges the pandemic has brought to teaching and learning.
They struggle mentally, socially, and academically. My students have anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem from the ongoing pandemic.
To meet the needs of my students, I am rethinking what teaching and learning look like in a classroom. Our classroom community must be strong and supportive to meet the new needs a global pandemic brings. My students are amazing individuals. I want to meet their needs so we can continue to navigate the changing world of education together.
My Project
Providing opportunities for students to make choices during the day helps students become responsible for their learning. One way I can offer my students choices is by creating flexible seating in our classroom. My students have a few flexible seating choices right now such as: sitting on the floor at lowered tables, sitting under desks with a reading book, and sitting on the floor with a Chromebook and/or clipboard. I have witnessed a positive difference since bringing flexible seating into our classroom. Students are motivated to demonstrate responsibility by being on task and doing their part in creating a positive learning environment for all students.
The products I have selected will offer a variety of choices for flexible seating.
The floor chairs will help students be comfortable while working independently during the day. The rubber cushions will provide stimulation for students who need to wiggle while they learn. The headphones will support learning while students focus on individual lessons.
