Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are members of a large inner-city school with over 600 students. They come from high poverty environments but come to school eager to learn. We have over 96% of students who receive free or reduced-price lunch. We are a Title I school and work daily to bring our students the best possible education to help them succeed.

Creating a safe welcoming learning environment is critical to the success of my little learners.

I want to make sure that my students have every opportunity to meet the goals that they set for themselves. I also want them to have a welcoming place that encourages them to grow and learn each and every day.

My Project

I have started to implement flexible seating in the classroom, and my students absolutely love having a choice of where and how to work on their assignments.

Students choice seating, including a comfy couch will build excitement!

Some students aren't able to sit at a desk with a chair for extended periods of time.

Students benefit from being able to make choice seating decisions in the classroom. I've seen a huge difference in the amount of completed work since I began offering flex seating. Having a comfy couch available will allow students the freedom to share a seat with a classmate while working out math problems, working on a writing topic, working at the blended learning stations, or even reading a book.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
