My Students

My students are fighting an uphill battle in more ways than one and they need your help. I teach at a Title I school in North Central California where 90% of our students are receiving free or reduced-price lunches. Some students also have the additional challenges that come with being second language learners with 80% of the student population being within this group. All of my students live in high-poverty neighborhoods where crime and violence are considered a natural part of life. My school does not have the funds to support the extras that would help make learning fun and interesting.

It doesn't matter what obstacles they have to overcome in their lives, all of my students have a positive outlook on life, and have many different dreams that they are working very hard to achieve.

They are great at working together to achieve a common goal, as well as working independently to achieve a personal goal. My class is an active and safe place where we engage in numerous activities that allows learning to happen in different ways.

My Project

Who doesn't like to cozy up to a good book? I know that my students are really loving to read, especially since being back in person. They love having actual books in their hands. They lost this opportunity while learning from home.

Flashlight Friday with a good book would be an awesome way to not only get a great book into their hands but also bring in a whole new way of reading to make it fun and enjoyable in class.

I just know that my students would love to read all around the room, in the dark, with only a flashlight to help them focus on just their reading and help to dive deeper into the world and journey that their book is taking them on.
