Fishing for Teen Numbers!

Help me give my students an interactive experience with magnetic fishing poles. Understanding teen numbers is a concept they struggle with and this would add fun to our learning!

My Students

I work with amazing students in grades Kindergarten through fifth grade who are struggling with algebraic thinking and numerical operations. These struggling students receive additional support from me throughout their day. Math is usually very difficult for them, so it is important for me to get them excited to try new strategies.

It is so much fun to see the growth that the students make from Kindergarten to fifth grade.

I am fortunate enough to be able to work with students for several years in a row. I try to make math fun and encourage the students so they are more willing to take risks. Even though my students struggle in math, they come to our group ready to learn and are willing to keep trying.

My Project

I would like to have 9 sets of magnetic fishing poles. The Kindergarten students are struggling with teen numbers. I will attach a paper clip to the teen number drawing on cardstock paper. The students will need to "fish" for the correct matching picture to the teen number with their fishing pole.

When we add excitement and have interactive activities for challenging topics, students are more likely to put in more effort in understanding and learning the concept.

The Kindergarten students are eager to learn, so if we can help them with interactive lessons, they will be able to learn new or tough concepts easier. This is a way to make teen numbers come alive in an interactive way.
