Not only did we learn the rules of the road and proper safety when using our Scooters, we practiced and mastered balancing. Students first learned the importance of safety, helmet use, and proper shoes. We then worked on how to ride the Scooters safely while learning the rules of the road. With the increase in accidents and injuries related to Scooters, Bicycles, E-Bikes, and E-Scooters it was beneficial for students to practice rules of the road and proper safety when riding. I was surprised at how many didn't understand or know why the helmet was so important in regards to protecting their head. That alone was so important. I even had a few students tell me they went out and got a helmet with their parents. Huge win!\r\nStudents were excited, engaged and willing to learn! The brand new scooters and helmets were so helpful and perfect for this activity. It was the talk of the school for the week about how we were learning about something new in PE. \r\nOverall this project was an amazing experience for me and the students are so thankful for the equipment to make Scooter Safety happen. It made an impact on them for sure. I will definitely revisit this unit in the Spring and build upon our skills with some obstacle course action and student lead activities.","fullyFundedDate":1773971721768,"projectUrl":"project/scooter-safety-for-students-in-pe/10135439/","projectTitle":"Scooter Safety for students in PE!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kopetsky","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8173540"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30459","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1267,"numTeachers":85,"percentFrplEligible":42,"percentAsian":7,"percentBlack":3,"percentWhite":60,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":22,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":5,"gradesServed":"Pre-K - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":78.6,"schoolId":30459,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westfield Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westfield Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/community-unit-school-district-300/westfield-community-school/30459"}
