My Students

My classroom is filled with a variety of learners from a variety of backgrounds. They are filled with personality, energy, and lots to say! My students love to make choices on their own, be creative with what they are doing, and like to move.

My goal is to encourage and empower my students to make positive decisions in which they will become problem solvers and creative thinkers and allowing them to work together in a variety of ways.

At our school and in my classroom, we are giving our students the tools to be on the move every day to be world-class.

My Project

At our school, we work to prepare our students to be world-class by opening their minds through innovation and encouraging them to be lifelong learners in the global community. Although we are a Title I school, our school has chosen to be one out of 15 elementary schools in the district to begin personalized learning. I want to be sure I have the tools to be able to empower makers in my classroom and am able to give students the opportunity to succeed.

With that being said, our main building was built in 1959 and is currently a blend of old and new architecture.

Construction of a kindergarten and 1st grade wing was completed in 1999. However, a lot of the building and furniture has not been replaced. The desks and chairs in my classroom are those that were originally there in 1999 when the now-retired teacher taught in the classroom. What does that have to do with empowering students and personalized learning? Well, have you ever sat in 20-year-old desks and chairs for hours at a time? It's rough! The kids need to move and they need space. Unfortunately, tables are too expensive for the district or me to buy, so flexible seating is the next best option. The kids will be able to choose what they are passionate about and where they are comfortable in the room. That is empowerment!
