They created textured color wheels, which gave them a hands-on way to explore both color and texture. For many of them, this was also their first opportunity to paint on canvas boards in my art class, making the experience especially engaging.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, students demonstrated a stronger understanding of color theory. We reviewed that primary colors cannot be created by mixing other colors and that secondary colors are formed only by mixing primary colors. While we have been learning many concepts in art class, this project highlighted how some students continue to struggle with foundational skills such as color relationships and creating texture. The project provided valuable insight into these learning gaps and allowed students to strengthen their understanding through practice.","fullyFundedDate":1766968090351,"projectUrl":"project/touch-the-rainbow-making-textured-color/9949351/","projectTitle":"Touch the Rainbow: Making Textured Color Wheels","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Reynolds","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2434712_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732389426808","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2434712"},{"teacherId":2434712,"projectId":9612622,"letterContent":"Thank you for your generous support of our weaving project. Your donations have made a meaningful difference in what our students are able to experience and create.\r\nBecause of your kindness, students are working with materials they would not otherwise have access to. These new tools and fibers open the door to creativity, curiosity, and confidence as students explore an art form that is both traditional and hands-on.\r\n\r\nThrough this project, students are learning an entirely new skill. They are practicing weaving and tying techniques, building fine motor skills, patience, and problem-solving along the way. Most importantly, they are engaging in a hands-on project that allows them to learn by doing—seeing their efforts come together into something tangible and personal.\r\n\r\nYour support helps transform the classroom into a space of exploration and creativity. The impact goes beyond the materials themselves; it gives students the opportunity to try something new, develop pride in their work, and experience the joy of making something with their own hands.\r\nThank you for investing in our students and for helping make this enriching experience possible.","fullyFundedDate":1762267716556,"projectUrl":"project/threads-of-imagination-art-through-weav/9612622/","projectTitle":"Threads of Imagination: Art Through Weaving","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Reynolds","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2434712_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1732389426808","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2434712"},{"teacherId":2760411,"projectId":9683408,"letterContent":"My students were so excited when the boxes arrived in our classroom. It was like Christmas! The children use the fine motor toys each morning after they arrive at school. These include the apple stringing and sorting activities. Many of my students have delayed fine motor skills; for example, they do not yet have the proper grip for holding a writing utensil, such as a pencil. These items are helping them develop those skills in a fun and engaging way.\r\n\r\nThe toys such as the truck with numbered barrels and the hedgehog with numbered spikes are helping us to teach the children number recognition and counting objects, which are foundational math skills; students have improved their number recognition and counting abilities since using these items.\r\n\r\nWe use the letter toys at least once a week for learning groups; for example, we give each small group a set of the rocket letter toys, which they put together as we (myself and my assistants) talk to them about things that start with each letter, which are pictured on the pieces. This activity helps students with letter recognition, vocabulary, and phonemic awareness, which are some of the building blocks of reading. All of the students have increased their vocabulary, letter and sound recognition skills.\r\n\r\nThese items have made such an impact with my students! Many of them, due to their specific learning and sensory needs, struggle with focusing on learning tasks.
