My students are 4 and 5 years old and cannot read yet. We have a large classroom library of books on tape (cassette tape with matching book) and would like to use them so that the students can enjoy literature and expand their knowledge of nonfiction text. Our students will have iPads with individual headphones. They can use the same headphones with these cassette players but actually have the opportunity to hold a book in their hand and turn pages. This will help develop prereading skills and a love for books. Many of our books also teach about our science and social studies standards. Our work centers will look different this year because of COVID-19 regulations. Students will have to work independently in an assigned spot. Giving each student their own cassette player will give each student the opportunity to enjoy the listening center. Previously, 3 or 4 students would have sat together sharing one book and cassette player (with multiple headphones plugged in). Having one per student for students in both the AM and PM session will allow us to store the cassette players with each student's other individual supplies.
