VanGogh has been quoted as saying "My sketchbook is a witness of what I am experiencing, scribbling things whenever they happen." Sketchbooks are an important tool for artist. They provide a place for students to think through their artworks, practice, and problem-solve. These sketchbooks are going to be so important to all students as we switch between digital and face to face learning.
Sketchbooks are so important to academic learning in art class but also provide emotional support through self-expression. Students will be able to communicate with their peers and teachers through the sketchbooks, by writing and explaining their plans for their artworks. Sketchbooks will also be a physical way to provide continuity between what they work on in school and at home. They will assist students in picking up where they left off when they get home.
Another important aspect of the sketchbooks is health and safety. By providing each student with one sketchbook, they will be able to create all their art and planning in one place. Students will take pictures of their art and send them to peers or the teacher for evaluation. Keeping the sketchbooks in their own possession will eliminate the possibility of spreading germs.
