My students need various tools and materials to create a learning environment that is comfortable, hands-on, and interactive with friends and teachers.
In order to create an ideal learning space equipped with tools for my 24 students, we are in need of certain materials that supplement our classroom community. My students need different flexible seating tools that will help them stay engaged during independent and group work.
Our classroom is tiny, so creating a classroom that is movable yet intentional is important.
Flexible seating will create an environment that the students will stay active, use tools when necessary, and learn to make choices on their own.
First graders are active little humans who need an outlet to move around, yet stay connected to what we are learning. Wiggle discs, yoga balls, and cushions will allow students to do just that in our tiny classroom. Personal interactive whiteboards will help students participate in classroom conversations as well as small group work with teachers. Water color will support our centers to produce high-quality work. Personal headphones will create personal access to technology by listening to books on discs. Providing these supplies will support the functions of centers and creative meaningful experiences for my students.
My Project
Flexible seating has become a new and refreshing movement to classrooms. Students are able to choose where they want to sit during independent work time. Students are able to choose a table, a cushion/pillow with a clipboard, or on a wiggle disc and a clipboard. This new form of flexible seating is strange for a new eye, but as a teacher of young children it's a natural habitat.
My students will be able to flourish in an environment where they have the autonomy to choose the best spot for them and I am able to aid them in that responsibility.
The resources that I have selected will help my students by giving them different seating options to help them stay engaged during whole group or independent work. Students will share their learning through the water color medium, and using headphones during listening to reading activities. These products will help our small, yet might flock and create a classroom environment that is exciting and engaging.
