My Students

My students from HSHS and the surrounding communities work in an after-school robotics club that competes in the FIRST Robotics competition. They are in 9th through 12th grade. HSHS is a large district that borders the city of Lansing. It includes urban, suburban and rural areas. We have a great deal of diversity in our district. We strive to attract minority students and females to STEM who tend to be underrepresented in engineering careers. Our students work incredibly hard to complete challenging work in a short time frame. We have a wide range of talents and knowledge within our team members and use student leaders to train new comers to the team. We are all-inclusive and accept all members with no application process regardless of prior knowledge or experience.

My Project

The FIRST Robotics competition prepares students for futures in STEM fields, as well as life skills needed in any career. Our team operates like a small business. Students are given 6 weeks to design, build, and program a robot to compete with and against teams from all over the world. COVID affected our program pretty hard and we are rebuilding this year. Our current laptops are too old to support Windows 10, and the FRC software required to program our bots. The machines are FAR from adequate to be able to use CAD software. We can't do our job without new machines. Please help me continue to provide our kids this amazing experience!
